Women's Wedge Trainers

Raise your style up a level with a wedge trainer — the easiest way to add height without giving up the comfort of a flat shoe. A wedge trainer builds the lift into the sole, so you get an extra couple of inches with your whole foot still supported, rather than balanced on a heel. Our collection is almost entirely side and front zip styles, with brands including Marco Tozzi, Ara, Rieker and Tamaris. As with everything we sell, returns are free within 30 days if a pair doesn't suit.

What's the difference between a wedge trainer and a platform trainer?

Both give you height, but they do it differently. A wedge is thicker at the heel than at the toe, so it tilts your foot forward slightly the way a low heel would — you get more lift at the back, and a longer-looking leg. A platform is the same thickness all the way along, so your foot stays flat and you simply stand taller. The wedge is the dressier of the two and works well with a skirt or slim trousers; the platform is the more casual, current shape and suits jeans and wide-leg trousers. If you're after the wedge, you're in the right place — platform styles are in our main trainers collection.

Are wedge trainers comfortable to walk in?

Yes, and more so than a heel of the same height, because the lift is spread under the whole foot rather than concentrated under the heel bone. Most of ours sit on a light, cushioned wedge rather than a solid one, so they don't feel heavy underfoot. The one thing to be aware of is that a wedge does tilt you forward a little, so if you've any trouble with the balls of your feet, a lower wedge or a platform will be kinder than a high one.

Why are most wedge trainers side zip?

Practicality, mostly. A wedge sole makes the shoe a little deeper, so a zip at the inside ankle is the easiest way in and out — you set the laces once for the look and never touch them again. It's also why wedge trainers are popular with customers who find bending or retying laces awkward. Nearly every style here has a side or front zip; the product description will say which.

Are wedge trainers true to size?

It depends on the brand. These come from several different makers and each fits a little differently, so the sizing note on the individual product is the one to go by rather than any general rule. If you're between sizes or unsure, give us a call on 01 8490847 and we'll advise on the particular style.
