What heel height should I go for?
It depends on how long you'll be on your feet. A flat or low block heel is the one to reach for if you're walking any distance or standing all day, and it's where most of our range sits. A block heel gives you height with a far more stable base than a stiletto — the most popular choice for work and occasions, and much easier on the feet than it looks. A wedge spreads your weight across the whole foot rather than concentrating it at the heel, which is why customers who find heels uncomfortable often get on well with them. Which ankle boots are best for Irish weather?
Worth knowing the difference before you buy, because the two terms get used interchangeably and they shouldn't be. A water resistant boot will see you through a shower or a wet walk to the car, but not sustained rain or standing in puddles. A waterproof boot has a membrane that wraps right around the foot and will keep water out properly — the only way in is over the top of the boot. For the coldest months, look for a warm or fleece lining — it makes far more difference than a thicker sock does.
Do you stock ankle boots in wider fittings?
We do. Remonte boots are made entirely in G and H fittings — there's no standard width in the range at all. Jana is an H fit throughout, and Gabor, Caprice and Ara offer G and H across selected styles. Can I wear my orthotics in ankle boots?
In many of them, yes. A good number of our ankle boots have a removable insole that lifts out to make room for your own orthotic or prescription support — we state it in the product description wherever a style is suitable, and you can browse them all in our orthotic friendly section. Boots tend to work better than shoes for orthotics because there's more depth to play with, though it's still worth trying the boot with your own orthotic in before you commit.
How do I look after suede boots in winter?
Spray them before you wear them, not after they get wet — a protector spray applied to clean, dry suede is the single best thing you can do. Let wet boots dry naturally away from a radiator, since direct heat hardens leather and suede, and brush the nap back up once they're fully dry.
