Ladies Wide Fit Footwear in H & EE Fittings

Almost every style in this collection is made on a named wider fitting, either the European H or the UK EE, so you know how much extra room you're getting before you order. The range runs from side-zip trainers, loafers and Mary Janes to block-heeled court shoes, ankle boots, Chelsea boots and knee boots, mostly in black, navy, brown and burgundy, with a few metallics for going out. Jana make every style on an H fitting, Waldlaufer start their range at H, and Ara, Gabor and Caprice offer it on selected styles, while Softmode and Padders use the UK EE. The one exception is G-Comfort, who don't mark a width fitting, but in our experience their styles fit at least as wide as an H. Shop with us in Skerries, Co. Dublin, or online with free delivery on orders over €69 and free returns within 30 days.

What's the difference between an H and an EE fitting?

They come from two different sizing systems. European brands such as Jana, Ara, Gabor and Waldlaufer run from F, the standard fit, through G, slightly wider, to H, the wide fitting, with more room across the ball of the foot and extra depth across the tread. Brands that use UK fittings, such as Padders and Softmode, run from D as standard through E to EE, the wider fitting for feet that need that extra bit of width. The two systems don't line up letter for letter, so rather than converting one to the other, go by the fitting stated on each product. Our size guide explains every fitting in more detail.

Should I size up or down in a wider fitting?

Neither. A wider fitting adds room across the ball of the foot and through the tread, not length, so your usual size is the place to start. If a wider shoe feels roomy, don't go down a size, because that takes length away from your toes rather than width from the sides. Beyond that, it depends on the brand, and the sizing note on the individual product is the one to go by. We'd suggest trying new shoes indoors on carpet first, and if you're unsure about a style, give us a call on 01 8490847.

Which styles have the most adjustable fit?

If you need room over the top of the foot as well as across it, look for a fastening that adjusts. Many of the Softmode shoes close with velcro straps, as do most Padders slippers, so you can set them exactly where you need them. The twin-zip boots and trainers from G-Comfort and Caprice open wide to step into, and the Rieker side-zip shoes have elasticated gussets that give as you move.

Are wider fitting shoes orthotic friendly?

Many are, though not all. Most of the Ara, Waldlaufer and G-Comfort styles here have a removable insole that lifts out to make room for your own orthotic, and so do a number from Gabor, Caprice, Remonte and Softmode. Jana's shoes generally don't. A removable insole makes a shoe a realistic candidate rather than a guarantee, since orthotics vary, so you're welcome to bring yours into the shop, or try a pair at home with free returns. Everything suitable is in our orthotic friendly section.
