Women's Sock Boots
Sock boots have become one of the most reliably wearable things in the shop, and it's easy to see why once you've had a pair on. Our collection runs from ankle height to full knee-highs, on flat soles, block heels and wedges, with brands including Caprice, Marco Tozzi and Miss Elastic. As with everything we sell, returns are free within 30 days if a pair doesn't suit.
What is a sock boot?
A sock boot is built from a stretch fabric that fits close to the foot and leg, the way a thick sock would, rather than from a rigid panel of leather. There's usually no zip and no laces — you simply pull them on, and the material shapes itself around your foot and ankle. The sole and heel are conventional; it's the upper that's different. That one change is what gives them their clean, unbroken line, and it's also what makes them so much easier to live with than they look.
Are sock boots comfortable?
Very, and for a reason that's often overlooked. Because the upper stretches, there are no fixed seams or hardware pressing on the foot — so if you have a high instep, or you've ever struggled to get a zip closed over the top of your foot, a sock boot solves that problem entirely. The same goes for anyone who finds zips and laces awkward: there's nothing to fasten. They're one of the few dressy boot styles we can genuinely recommend to someone who wants to look smart and doesn't want a fight getting ready.
Ankle or knee high?
Both are here, and they suit different things. An ankle sock boot finishes just above the ankle bone and is the more everyday of the two — it works with cropped trousers, jeans and midi skirts, and it's the one most customers reach for first. A knee high sock boot takes the same stretch construction all the way up the leg, which makes it a genuinely different proposition for anyone who's struggled to find knee boots that fit. If that's what you're after, our knee & calf boots section covers the fit side in more detail.
Do sock boots bag or wrinkle at the ankle?
A good one shouldn't. The better sock boots use a fabric with proper recovery, so it stretches to go on and then pulls back to the shape of your leg rather than staying slack. That's usually where the difference in price shows up — a cheap sock boot loses its shape by the third or fourth wearing. The styles we stock hold up, and if a pair ever doesn't, we'd want to know about it.
Are sock boots true to size?
It depends on the brand. Our sock boots come from three different makers and each fits a little differently, so the sizing note on the individual product is the one to go by rather than any general rule. One thing that does apply across the board: if you're between sizes, going up tends to be the mistake with these. The stretch means a slightly snug boot will give, whereas an over-large one has nothing to grip and will wrinkle at the ankle. If you're unsure, give us a call on 01 8490847 and we'll advise on the particular style.
What do you wear sock boots with?
They're at their best where a chunkier boot would break the line. With a midi skirt or a dress, the close fit carries the eye straight down without interruption. With cropped or slim trousers, a little bare ankle above an ankle sock boot is a neat finish. They're less suited to a wide-leg trouser — the fabric disappears under the hem and you lose the point of them — so that's where a structured ankle boot earns its place instead.
Do you stock vegan sock boots?
We do. Several styles in this range are made without animal leather and are marked as vegan in the product name, so you don't have to go hunting. You can browse everything suitable in our vegan footwear section.
