The Shoe Horn

Shoe Width Explained -

Most of our shoes are a standard fit and will fit most feet. However, some brands create shoes that are a little wider or narrower. You may notice these in some of our product descriptions, such as “Fit: G” or “Fit: H”, or note that it is a wider fitting shoe.

The following is a brief guide on what these different sizes mean. Some European brands use different symbols for shoe width, these are explained below.

This guide usually is associated with UK brands and sizes.


This is for shoes that are more of a narrow foot and are suitable for more slender feet.


Standard fitting shoes. This may or may not appear on our shoes as it is standard fit.


Wide fit, suitable for feet that may need a little more room.


Wider fitting shoes, for feet that require that extra bit of width


Extra wide fit.

As mentioned, some brands vary is how they represent shoe width. F, G and H are normally associated with European sizes.


This is the standard fit for European sized shoes.


Slightly wider fit. Has more room for ball of foot and toes.


Slightly wider again, providing more room and comfort. They may also have a wider tread depth.
